Mr Burton featured Toby Jones and Lesley Manville as perfect foils to the tempestuous teenage Richard Jenkins (played by Harry Lawtey), who would later take the name "Burton". The film shows Richard, twelfth of thirteen children and living with his older sister's family, having to leave school early to work, being readmitted into education by the efforts of teachers and having his love of drama developed -and his Welsh accent tamed - by Mr Burton, his drama teacher. The film takes us through to Richard first exploding onto the stage to great public acclaim.
