Review by Liz S
starring Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth; Directed by Steven Spielberg
We watched a 2.5 hour action-packed, roller coaster of a film in which our heroes managed to escape seemingly impossible situations. In the plot line, it gradually became clear that Noah Scanlon (Colin Firth) was leading a bunch of baddies trying to prevent disclosure of information concerning alien life on earth by security expert Daniel Kellner (Josh O'Connor) who had been influenced by the aliens. Separately, Margaret Fairchild (Emily Blunt) also came under the influence of the aliens and thus joined forces with Daniel Kellner. Some of the plot lines stretched credulity, some had us on the edge of our seats but the plot held together, although we couldn't agree what had happened to the security guard who grabbed the alien device. Most of us would like to see the film again to clarify some of the scenes. However, it was an exciting and humourous film, the music by John Williams was excellent and we all gave it high marks for entertainment value. No chance of falling asleep!
