Musical by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez, and Matt Stone
The Book of Mormon is an award winning production with 9 Tony Awards and 4 Olivier Awards. It was previewed on Broadway in 2011.
Before deciding to go to the performance there was a lot of discussion in the group about its rude and sometimes offensive content. Some members decided it was not for them.
Written by the creators of South Park, it is a satirical look at organised religion. The story is about two young Mormon missionaries who leave Salt Lake City for Africa, but what they find is very different from what they had been taught or expected!
The humour is witty and clever but sometimes irreverent. The music is excellent, there are a lot of catchy tunes that get your foot tapping. The dancing is outstanding and high energy.
The whole show was beautifully performed by a brilliant cast. A ‘marmite’ performance perhaps, but those who went enjoyed it immensely.
