Review by Liz S
Starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi; Directed by Emerald Fennell
This adaptation of Wuthering Heights, having basis in the novel by Emily Brontë, presented visually rich and detailed contrasts between Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange and also the inhabitants of these places. However, we were unconvinced of the role played by Robbie. The gothic portrayals in the film also sometimes felt uncomfortably extreme. We noted that the choice of period decoration and costume made it an interesting adaptation of the book. We wondered if the film might bring the passion and revenge elements of the book to a younger audience. We particularly enjoyed Martin Clunes, whose role blended elements of Cathy’s father and brother into a memorable supporting performance.
